It seems kind of strange that I haven't updated since early May! It means I haven't said anything about my birthday, my extension, 4th of July... well, a lot really!<div>
<br /></div><div>I'm not really sure if re-living the whole of the last well, four months is particularly clever (we could be here for a while) but I will give you a brief run-down.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>May was fun. The highlight was obviously my birthday for which Janey, bless her, took me to Tutto Italia as I love it sooo much, and Anna and Arran came and joined us too. We had a lovely meal as the four of us and I really really enjoyed the evening. They told the waiter that it was my birthday too, and so they sung to me in the Italian-themed way which left us giggling for a good wee while. Whilst we were waiting for Janey and Anna to arrive as they'd had the day off, Arran treated us to a Funnel Cake to bide the time and I remember munching that in the American Pavilion trying to make sure that the powdered sugar didn't completely cover us from head to toe before our lovely meal... I think we did fairly ok.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>Next Janey took me to the Polynesian for the night. That place is seriously plush! We took advantage of our hotel stay and met up with Andrea and Mark and then headed to Chef Mickey's for laughs and a buffet dinner. It was seriously good fun! They take a photo of you before you get seated, and I have the one from when me and Vikki visited it on a whim, which started the tradition, and I haven't missed a photo opportunity yet! So I have a copy of the four of us from that night as well, and it's a lovely photo! Even though it was a few days past my birthday at this point, they tipped the waitress off and I got to wave my napkin round my head with Pluto and got myself a birthday cupcake and candle to celebrate! Beautiful!</div><div>
<br /></div><div>On my actual birthday, Vikki, Tori and I went to SeaWorld! It was the first time I'd been since I got out to Florida on the program and I literally had the most fun! We saw the Dolphin show, the Shamu show and Shamu rocks as well as getting the All Day Dining deal, so we ate soooo much that day! After that we all headed to Cowboys to celebrate, and I love that place!</div><div>
<br /></div><div>A few days later, and it's the beginning of June. Jon is over to see Vikki for three weeks and I have the apartment to myself. Only, I get myself a little letter from housing to tell me that me and Vikki have our one-bedroom apartment and we can move from the next day! This is brilliant, but at this stage Vikki's staying at Port Orleans, and I have to move a fair amount by myself. Wonderful, but pants timing, let's be honest! Anyway, we moved. We had a one-bed. I got to play around with it a bit before Vikki came back and we put the place together just how we wanted it. There was a $150 Target shop that helped with that a lot. Still, it was beautiful and we love it.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>Anyway, before Vikki came back, her and Jon went to Cinderella's Royal Table for a bit of a lovely meal on their anniversary. Vikki came back from that one with a little bit more than a photo. Jon proposed and I went to meet them in Magic Kingdom and watched Wishes with them to celebrate. Lovely.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>It was kind of weird not having Vikki around for three weeks. Still, I managed to do a fair amount of exciting stuff anyway. Me and Mark went to Star Wars Weekends at Hollywood Studios one weekend, and we spent far too much money on merchandise which was all shipped to the front of the park so we didn't have to carry it about all day. We rode Star Wars a fair few times as well, which I have to say is probably my favourite ride in Walt Disney World!</div><div>
<br /></div><div>At the end of that day I journeyed to Fort Wilderness to meet up with a load of friends for the Hoop Dee Doo Revue. So much fun! Then the next day I was due to meet Vikki and Jon for a trip to St. Augustine. I was horrendously hungover that morning and slept for a while in the car, but it wasn't long before we decided St. Augustine wasn't really for us and we headed to Daytona Beach for the rest of the afternoon instead.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>At the end of June, Vikki and I had planned to visit California and Disneyland, but it failed to come about for a variety of reasons. Since we had the time off though, it would have been a shame to waste it, so we booked ourselves into Caribbean Beach for 4 days. It was sooo much fun there. We headed to Magic Kingdom one day and bought ourselves a flashing Tinkerbell balloon for far more money than was really required, but it was a weekend of indulgence, and I loved it!</div><div>
<br /></div><div>July saw the 4th of July celebrations and the fireworks were awesome! I saw the Magic Kingdom ones from the Polynesian beach on the 3rd July and the Epcot ones with friends on the 4th. Seriously incredible! I spent the day with Teddy and it was also the day that Vikki's friend Tess arrived. Me and Tess are incredibly alike. :) The evening was spent in good company, including Vikki, Tess, Teddy, Ashley and more friends! We even had a few wee glasses of Rosa Regale for good measure!</div><div>
<br /></div><div>My extension got approved and instead of leaving that week, I was granted another 6 weeks of Floridian life. Beautiful.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>Janey left and that was pretty horrific, but I knew it was me all too soon, so I got through that. </div><div>
<br /></div><div>And eventually after lots of fun and frolics, Lasses and others leaving, and a few more Cowboys nights, it was my turn. Me and Jen left together and my family flew out for a holiday. I finally got to do Harry Potter and Universal just before I left, but it was completely worth the wait, and I feel like I've done what I wanted to do now.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>So here I am, back in the UK. Can't say that I don't want to be back in Florida, but I'm not really settled yet - it's only been a week. Mum and Dad are back later today and Ryan too, so I'm sure things will only get better from here!</div><div>
<br /></div><div>Love and hugs xxx</div>Terri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-32876249613192557622011-05-07T09:52:00.000-07:002011-05-07T10:21:36.692-07:00The Stuff that Dreams are Made of...The last month or so has been very eventful for me out here. Lots of things have been happening which has resulted in quite a few very busy weeks.<br /><br />Firstly I made it into service. It was a little rocky for me during test day, but in comparison to what some people have had to go through since, I think I did rather well considering. My food running week went swimmingly; I really enjoyed my actual food running shifts. My bar day was useful but simply confirmed that I have no desires to go onto the bar, which from what I can tell but the amount of people talking about getting onto the bar is rare at the moment, so a good time, for sure! My culinary day in the kitchen was also very helpful, but I did do my culinary day the day before the menu changed over, so whilst a lot of the dishes were the same, there were a few that changed the next day. It was quite amusing thinking as I was making some of the dishes that I needn't remember the recipes past 3 hours' time!<br /><br />Next I hit my service week and I found it a lot less worrying that I had thought it would be! I found the nature of serving coming back to me very quickly, so the basics were easier to get back into the habit of than I'd thought. I really enjoyed the desserts tasting that you get to do as part of the training though, and had myself most of a chocolate scotch cake and bakewell tart all to myself. No need for lunch that day then! The service test itself is the bit that everyone dreads and mine was going fine until I couldn't find the chef for one part and then I just lost my train of thought completely. They passed me, but asked me to stay on for the evening just to fine-tune my service standards, which I did and I have now been serving my own fully-fledged tables for about 3 to 4 weeks or so now! :)<br /><br />I've also been re-selected as a trainer and now train servers, which is quite an acheivement having been in service such a short time! I really enjoy it and I feel like I might be able to help people, so that's a really rewarding thought. We shall see in time! My first trainee was ironically, Vikki, (who is now also a server, so we're in the money) and although it was strange moaning at her and trying to encourage her to prioritise she says my training helped, so I feel like it was definitely worth it! :)<br /><br />We've visited a couple of different restaurants in the time that's passed since then, including Ohana, which is a fantastic meal! I would seriously recommend a trip there. We also visited Tutto Italia in Italy at Epcot. I had the lasagne, and although it's definitely a little pricey, I would love to go there again.<br /><br />Katie and her family came over to visit right after I passed my service test, so I got to see my best friend and we went for dinner at T-Rex as well. So I've been eating out a fair bit recently! I got to see my best friend again, which was wonderful and they brought me a load of chocolate over as well so British chocolate has spoilt me quite a lot. The chocolate here just isn't great! I've also taken to buying Heinz beans from the import aisle at the supermarkets as beans just don't exist out here!<br /><br />I could have used some beans on the Royal Wedding day, though. Me and Vikki got up very early (5.30am) to watch William marry Kate, and it was much more understated than I'd thought it would be. Lots of guests have been asking about it at the restaurant, and I thought it would be a good idea to watch it! We got to work for a UK pavilion photo at 8.30am the same day! I had so much fun with my friends and we get to keep a copy of the official photograph as well; I can't think of a much better memory! After the photo we all headed round Epcot for a bit as a group, and 21 of us went on Soarin' then Test Track at 9am! Me and Arran had to head back to work for 10.45am starts and then served the lunch period before heading for food and cinema in the evening!<br /><br />I'll try to keep this more up to date now, but you know what I'm like. I know I've missed loads from this anyway, but if I don't go and get ready for work now, then I never will!Terri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-31420459448704017992011-03-24T08:39:00.000-07:002011-03-24T09:18:37.297-07:00New Dawn, New Day, New Post!Ok, so I've been off away with the fairies for a while and haven't updated. I apologise. I will try and cram the last month or so into a fairly brief account of how things are going.<br /><br />At some point in the last few weeks I was chatting to Vikki and realised, barring an extension, I am half way through my programme. This was quite possibly the most depressing thing I have thought of in such a long long time! Still, this kind of stirred me into action a bit. I applied for Disney Trainer (as the interviews conveniently happened to be at this time and I've wanted to do it since I arrived) and spent three solid days learning the (now old) menu. I did my trainer interview and took my pre-service test. Both of which I passed fairly well. As a result, I am now a Trainer (yay!) and I am going into service on Sunday!<br /><br />I've done a couple of training shifts already now, and I'd forgotten how much I enjoy training people! I always enjoyed it back in the UK, hence the reason for the training manager position that was given to me in the Hut, but this is so much more. It's incredibly difficult to become a trainer here; you have to go through and interview, take a class or two and all sorts. It's nice to be able to make a difference for cast as well as guests and I am enjoying every second of it! My last trainign shift, providing I pass my service test, is on saturday and I actually think I get to rip off a few 'earning my ears' ribbons! Exciting!<br /><br />I start my food-running week on sunday, which is very exciting. I can't actually wait to go in now. I wasn't ready to leave podium for a long time, but I think it's about time for me to get into something different on my programme, and I certainly won't miss not having any money! I just really hope that I pass now!<br /><br />It was really weird on Monday as I hung up my assigning board. So now, unless I get pulled from service one day or I fail my service tests, then I won't be assigning again. That's a very weird feeling, if I'm honest. I really enjoy assigning, and I know I'm fairly good at it. I guess I'm kinda worried that I might go into service and be utterly rubbish at it, but hey, you gotta try these things.<br /><br />I've been going to Lasses regularly for a few weeks now and I'm really enjoying it! It seems kinda strange that I wasn't really into it in the beginning, but things have changed a little now, and it works a lot better for me. I'm really liking meeting up with all the girls and getting the chance to see all the merchies as well as the f&b lot that I work with all the time. On monday I'll be getting my t-shirt and I'm a little worried about what my name with be, but I'm hoping it won't be too mean! Anna will be getting hers with me, as well as a lot of the other girls, but I think we're both a bit intrigued as to what they have in store for us!<br /><br />Well, I'm off to work now. Hopefully I'll stay off of Beer Cart today and get to break the assignor. Fingers crossed, right!?Terri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-38659049293981980092011-02-19T19:31:00.000-08:002011-02-19T19:56:36.018-08:00A Tale of Two Sides,,,It's been nice being back in Patterson.<br /><br />Assignor training was funand surprisingly a lot easier than I had originally thought. It has it's challenges around 7pm, but I managed to take walk-ins for most of that period on my last day of training, which was much better than I'd originally anticipated. I did manage to take a few too many walk ins on a short wait, but I got them in, which was the right thing to do.<br /><br />It's been nice having a few days off in a row now though, as it was beginning to get me just a bit too tired. A few of us went to Typhoon Lagoon yesterday, which was really good fun. The weather's much much nicer than it has been, so it was perfect.<br /><br />Still, it was supposed to be a movie night tonight but everyone's bailed. I hate commons.Terri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-3491015914689647682011-02-09T21:39:00.000-08:002011-02-09T21:50:10.991-08:00Welcome Aboard The Walt Disney World Transportation SystemThanks for riding with us, and welcome home! The last two weeks have been a little bit of a rollercoaster, it's needless to say, and quite frankly, I think I'd have gone stir crazy to hear any transportation system sentence again today! I can't quite believe how much I missed the cast buses, but it's fair to say they're a lot better than they are credited with. Apart from the stops at Vista, of course.<br /><br />Dan came to visit for the last two weeks, and even as I write this, he is winging his way back across the Atlantic to home. It's been wonderful to have him here and be part of his first Disney visit, but I won't lie - there's a part of me that's glad to go back to my life here. We've seen a lot, and he's certainly acheived a lot, but I'll always be glad of this opportunity and I like that it's mine. I like that I chose to share bits of it, but not all of it, and for that it really feels like something special. Saying that, it doesn't get much better than having your friend come and share the most magical experience you'll ever have with you, even just for a little while.<br /><br />It's easy to get back into the swing of things, though. Even though at first it feels a little odd, and you feel as though you may very well have misplaced something important, the feeling fades quickly and the steady flow of pavilion life sets back in. I've missed the Rose and Crown and I'm glad to be back. Certainly, it won't last forever, but I'll secretly always enjoy it.<br /><br />Still, I think it's time for bed, and aside from the parks and the time spent with Dan this past fortnight, most things have been normal. I've still worked and played. Perhaps now though, I can sleep a little longer. :)<br /><br />Night xxxTerri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-80480355798256227872011-01-19T21:44:00.000-08:002011-01-19T22:06:41.704-08:00Happy Birthday Alberto!Today was gloriously sunny right up until half 7ish, when the wind started and it got a little chilly. I've spent my day on Beer Cart today, and I'm sure that you know that me and Beer Cart are hardly best friends. Still, it was a nice change from Chippy/Podium and at least I didn't have to seat anyone at all today!<br /><br />The last ocuple of days have been rather interesting. I was supposed to go to the Magic Kingdom with Anna on Monday, but we were hit by some pretty nasty thunderstorms that meant that the parks were practically empty and we were hardly up for heading out if we didn't really need to. Alas, we have not completed Magic Kingdom, but we are very much looking forward to doing so. I am thinking that there definitely needs to be some Carousel of Progress initiations done. I wasn't feeling too great and combined with the rain felt it best to get domestic goddess things done. Vikki came home from work with an ER though, so we headed out in the (fairly) dry evening to visit Coronado Springs for dinner. We visited a lovely little Quick Service dining area called the Pepper Market, which works similarly to a market. You can collect whatever you want from various different counters and then pay for what you've had at the end of your meal. I found it thoroughly enjoyable and think it might be a location that I will take Dan when he comes out to visit...<br /><br />...which is in a week today! I'm quite excited by the prospect, and am currently trying to sort out shifts for me and Vikki to make lives easier when Dan and Jon arrive. We have lots of things planned but I'm not sharing them on here until they happen because I simply want them to be a surprise!<br /><br />Yesterday I drew my second hopscotch. This time around, it was Pixar themed, so there was different layers involving drawings such as the house from UP!; Princess Atta from A Bug's Life; Lightning McQueen and Boo from Monsters Inc. It was pretty good - I even saw one person photographing the house from UP! pretty intently as I was leaving after the close. Winner! So, that's a Cars hopscotch and a Pixar hopscotch... I really need to think of a different theme now!<br /><br />Now it's 1am and it's the 20th January, which means two things are happening today...<br />1) It's Alberto's birthday.<br />2) James arrives in Orlando.<br /><br />And now folks, I think on that note, and the fact that I do indeed have a day of Chippy tills tomorrow, that I will bid you adieu for a night with my not-quite-a-duvet. :) xxxTerri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-79895088266615295412011-01-16T19:06:00.000-08:002011-01-16T20:52:40.810-08:00Countdown to... oh wait... no need for the countdown! So, today was fun! Was supposed to be a few of us heading for breakfast at Captain's Grille at the Yacht Club, but some lie-ins lead to it being just me and Vikki for breakfast. It was super scrummy though, and we'll be heading back there for breakfast again soon. It was a buffet involving just about everything: pastries; full English; cereals; bagels; fruit; drinks - the whole works! I ate Mickey waffles, and although Vikki was highly disturbed by the idea of eating a replica of The Boss, had to admit she wanted to try them (I recommend them - they're very good!). I am however, disappointed that there seems to be a distinct lack of baked beans in the US.<br /><br />After that me and Vikki went for a wander around Boardwalk and discovered a little shop which is full of all sorts of wonderful curios we haven't found in any other location! I spotted a little dining locations guide to WDW, which I fear will become a permanent addition to Vikki's handbag. I have also now had a walk through the gorgeous white sand that forms the beach part of Beach Club. It's beautiful. We then took the stroll to Hollywood Studios past the lagoon stream that runs through the Epcot resort area. It's genuinely a lovely walk that I would suggest that you take if and when you visit Disney.<br /><br />Once we reached Hollywood, we went for a bit of a look round the shops before watching American Idol and Disney Channel Rocks, at which point we were enjoying Mickey shaped ice-cream foodstuffs. Yummy. Unfortunately, Vikki had to head back to Epcot at this point for her shift a little later. However, I met up with Arran, Dan, Anna & co just at the same time, so that was pretty well timed!<br /><br />We watched the Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun Parade which is the new Studios parade. I quite liked it, but I shan't spoil it for you as it's much more fun that way! After the parade, everyone left to spend the evening in Fort Wilderness, apart from Anna and me. We had a lovely afternoon completing various bits of Hollywood that we haven't done since we arrived in Florida, including the Backlot Tour and Voyage of the Little Mermaid. I'm really quite excited because tomorrow we're planning on getting a lot of Magic Kingdom done! Snow White's Not-So-Scary Adventures, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin and Peter Pan's Flight being part of the list...<br /><br />I'll let you know how it goes! :) xxxTerri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-41012667371113193292011-01-13T23:16:00.000-08:002011-01-13T23:27:30.271-08:00There's Two Feet of Snow in Boston...So, I closed Beer Cart last night, and that was COLD. I did maybe fifteen transactions in the whole last hour that I was on Beer Cart, and I seriously thought my hands were going to drop off, I was so cold. I felt so sorry for Emily who had to close it this evening, as it was even colder tonight! :( On the plus side - no wasps!<br /><br />Beer Cart yesterday was pretty cool though, all things considered. I managed to get chatting to a few guests as it was so quiet and get my real job done. That is - culturally representing the UK. I ws explaining the Rose and Crown crest using the War of the Roses, and even managed to explain the four countries and how the governmental systems work to another. Very interesting.<br /><br />Today though, I haven't really been feeling it - I'll be honest. I've had a fairly slow day, with some interesting muck-ups and it didn't help that it was really slow because it was so cold. I don't want to dwell on it though, because it's done now. I've had a very nice evening to balance out my fairly bad day - dinner and laughs at TGIs.<br /><br />For now, though folks... time for sleeping! :)Terri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-13698982685333039062011-01-10T09:21:00.001-08:002011-01-10T22:03:37.335-08:00Park Hopping<p>So the last couple of days have been fairly normal for me. Mainly just working with little excitement. However, the evenings have been a little more fun. As of this week I’ve started to get some better shifts. As the new people settle into their role more, then they get all the closing shifts and the rest of us get the day shifts. For example, I worked my first AM Beer Cart shift the other day (still hate it because of the wasps), which meant I was out a lot earlier than most people!</p> <p>On Thursday I took a trip to Cowboys with some of the others, and the night there was absolutely hilarious. Most of the new arrival group was there, and Vikki came along, so I spent most the evening with them all. Was very exciting to do as I haven’t been anywhere quite like that before. It’s a line dancing bar, so we watched the locals do line dancing in front of us. We also had a little try of doing it ourselves towards the end of the night and we were definitely all appalling in comparison, but at least it was fun. I still don’t understand how the dances are set though!</p> <p>Yesterday was the first of my two days off and I spent it doing lots of things I haven’t done yet! I went with Dan, Callum, Arran and Dawn to Gospel Breakfast at House of Blues, which was a truly unique experience. I was an all-you-can-eat buffet style breakfast with soft drinks included, whilst a gospel group sang! It was really fun and the food was exceptionally good. I can’t believe how much I ate. After that was over the five of us headed to Old Key West, which is a beautiful resort. I think it’s a little out of the way though, but if you wanted something that is enclosed and encapsulated in it’s own little world, I would think that might be a resort high on your list! Unfortunately, Dawn and Callum had to work later on, so we left them there to get a bus to Epcot, whilst Dan, Arran and I headed to Magic Kingdom.</p> <p>Once there, Arran and Dan headed to get a haircut at the Barber Shop (after quickly meeting Pluto for a photo), and I watched the parade whilst waiting for them. It’s quite interesting to watch it from that spot – an entirely different perspective than anywhere else, so that was fun. Once they were all neatened up we ended up getting pixie-dusted in Fantasyland, and met the fairies and the princesses before heading to Hollywood Studios. On the way out, we headed down Main Street and I dragged everyone into the bakery for a Sugar Cookie… YUM!</p> <p>From there, we headed to Hollywood Studios, where we met up with Jane and headed to Sweet Spells. Once there we all got cakes and brownies and apples etc, before making our way to Beauty and the Beast at Theatre of the Stars! I love that show – I’ve seen it every time I’ve been to Hollywood Studios for the day, I think. our aim for the evening was to see Fantasmic! as Jane has not yet seen it and the others of us LOVE it. After we’d seen the Beauty and the Beast though, we headed to Tower of Terror (which I didn’t ride) before going to Fantasmic. Unfortunately it took a little longer than we’d thought, so we missed the start of Fantasmic and decided to wait for the later show. We met some characters whilst waiting though, so Woody and Buzz and Sorceror Mickey are also now in my autograph book after yesterday.</p> <p>Fantasmic was just as incredible as it was the first time and I had an immense amount of fun watching it! <img style="border-style: none;" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ZKY8Su3h-2M/TStAJzcfEqI/AAAAAAAAABE/5lDpyN3JcBs/wlEmoticon-smile%5B2%5D.png?imgmax=800" /></p> <p>After that we just headed home, where I found out one of the new arrivals had got into her apartment and so we met up with a few people in Arran & Callum’s so she could meet some of the pavilion. Much laughing, fun and crisps later, we ended the evening. What an awesome day that was!</p> <p>Now I’m off to run some chores and meet up with Steph to do her first Walmart run. x</p>Terri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-91991761497373894322011-01-04T22:38:00.001-08:002011-01-04T22:38:02.032-08:00So, training is as training does…<p>The last couple of days have both been eventful and not so, depending on your perspective. I am at last beginning to feel like I am not on my own really, which is possibly the nicest feeling that I have had since I started out here! <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_ZKY8Su3h-2M/TSQRx3u3nWI/AAAAAAAAABA/FIPhrIpSW5Q/wlEmoticon-smile%5B2%5D.png?imgmax=800" /></p> <p>The last few days have seen some new experiences for me. I’ve noticed that I’m being asked more and more questions, which is a good sign that I’m picking up more information than I had realised. It has also highlighted to me more than ever that I would love to become a trainer. I think that training people here would be an awesome thing to do – who wouldn’t want to say they were a service trainer for the number one hospitality and entertainment company in the world? </p> <p>At work today I didn’t actually close greeter, which was quite a revelation. I have closed chippy a couple of times recently, which has been particularly nice. Although I think I’ve learnt my lesson and will check the condiment carts myself before I call a manager, regardless of what is said.</p> <p>On Sunday I visited House of Blues for the first time, which was really good fun. The music was up and down in parts, but the company was awesome and I had a lovely time dancing and drinking. The outside porch bar wasn’t too crowded, and the drinks were quite cheap for out here (alcohol is expensive in the US) so all in all it was a very good night. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I learnt quite a lot about my pavilion friends too! (Hi!)</p> <p>I can also safely say that we have successfully found an awesome Chinese takeaway out here. The food is lush and the portions are fairly big! All the meals come with plain boiled rice as well, which is great, but I don’t really like the plain rice and think that egg fried would be much better. Not sure quite how, but we always seem to forget the Prawn Crackers as well.</p> <p>I’ve managed to Skype home quite a bit over the last couple of days, which has been nice. I spoke to Mum, Dad and Ryan for a reasonably long time the other day and glad to hear they’re all doing well. Obviously I talk to Dan almost every day, but it’s nice to keep in touch and have longer catch ups from time to time. Also, I managed to talk to Auntie Jackie and Michael the other day, so hello to all of you who may be reading. It’s nice to talk to you all and keep you up to date with the day to day antics on here.</p> <p>The weather is getting better and better at the moment, which is good. Although in fairness the rain did hit for a few minutes earlier this evening – still, hardly cold! Looking forward to the end of this month when Dan is out as I think that it could be a very nice temperature!</p> <p>Still, I need to go and grab my washing out of the dryer and then grab some sleep, as I intend to sign up for a behind the scenes Haunted Mansion tour bright and early. </p> <p>Night all xxxx</p> Terri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-74281021181672695522011-01-02T08:16:00.001-08:002011-01-02T08:16:32.813-08:00Happy New Year Rose & Crown<p>Happy New Year! I had a wonderful new year at work this time around. I got paid to spend my new year watching fireworks and having fun with my friends out here in Floridian-land. I won’t say too much about the fireworks set up in case you haven’t seen it and might like to at some point in the future. Rest assured you won’t be disappointed!</p> <p>New year hit the UK at 7pm out here, which meant that I was definitely working. I was Seating for the first part of my shift, which was great, because Holly stopped seating people ready for the 7pm celebrations in the Rose and Crown. The weird part was knowing that friends and family across the globe were celebrating the new year then, and I was still 5 hours away from mine. That is definitely the weirdest thing about the whole time difference scenario. Still, Emily did a shout-out just before 7, so were able to get the guests in the restaurant involved in the countdown to UK new year. That was awesome, because they were clearly thrilled to be involved in an early celebration. There was much hugging that ensued! Was lovely to be in the UK pavilion at that point though, because you knew that the people you were with were all in similar situations, feeling similar things. Was more magical that way, definitely.</p> <p>By the time midnight hit, I had had my break and I was closing Greeter (which I seem to be doing every day) so i had to man podium at all times. The blessing was that most people that had finished, or were still working were congregated in the podium/beer cart area, so we had a lot of podium staff and servers in the area for midnight. It was awesome – an experience I’ll never forget. Thank you to all the people there that had a massive impact on that.</p> <p>Today I worked from 4pm, so I was able to have a lie-in this morning, and tomorrow I am off also, so more sleep time is possible. Work is getting easier and more fun, surprisingly, with each passing day. I quite enjoy working, which is refreshing and helpful as I need to make as much money as possible for when Dan is here in less than a month! <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ZKY8Su3h-2M/TSCk3_vS2nI/AAAAAAAAAA4/G-s9JiNEnlE/wlEmoticon-smile2.png?imgmax=800" /></p> <p>Not much else to report, troops… I’m to bed… Terri xxx</p> Terri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-36992258033350098032010-12-30T08:59:00.000-08:002010-12-30T09:28:28.503-08:00It's the Most Magical Time of the Year...So... yesterday was very interesting. It started nice and early, which is always a good way to start the day, and I headed off to Hollywood Studios with Vikki and Riyad after a little faffing. I was rather pleased with the small amount of faffing that we did do, as it does usually take us just as long to leave as it we spend at our destination, so all in all a good start to the day.<br /><br />We decided to eat at Backlot Express to fulfil another of Vikki's restaurant quota, but the food was good and tasty, and we saw some excellent Disney service displayed, so I can't fault the place! Kim was lovely as I removed my purse from my bag and spilled change on the floor - we've all done it. Still, she ran over to help me pick the bits of change up, which was very kind and then chatted to us for a while, whilst we were deciding what to have. She also let us know that we could alter the menu if we wanted to, to accommodate our eating preference, which is great because Backlot is actually a Quick Service location! :) Next, me and Riyad got stuck in the queue behind a guest with considerable allergy concerns, which was long and boring for us, but obviously very important. The manager, Michael, came over to help the family with their meal choices, and was excellent, so was well worth watching and waiting for them to order. Still, Vikki had already grabbed her meal and found a table by the time we'd ordered, so we ended up sat chatting for ages! That was a lovely relaxing meal, and the atmosphere there was fantastic!<br /><br />After that we took a boat to Epcot for work. Vikki started half an hour before me, and it was so busy in the park yesterday that it took ages to walk from one part to another! She cut it a little fine for work because of sheer guest volume, but she made it! :)<br /><br />To start with at work, I was Chippie filling, which is one of my favourite jobs at the pavillion. It was nice and steady for a while, and there were three fillers, so it was breezy. Vikki ended up breaking someone out, and we were filling together for about an hour, which was nice. However, it was the busiest hour of the day so there wasn't too much downtime to write 'Did you know' facts on the trays. Bad times!<br /><br />After my break, I got sent to seat. I had a lovely evening seating, really. I got chatting to a few tables, didn't forget any cutlery(!), and had some great guest interaction with a little boy who'd been to Animal Kingdom during the day. Lovely. I got to do Magic Moment, and the little girl really loved it! It was amazing - we even saw Tinkerbell! Then, last thing before we closed, me and Daniel sat this lovely family, and they really did make my day. They were so kind, and one of the guests was in a wheelchair, so we got chatting about his colouring skills and his big sister was so kind and said I'd made their day. That was so cute. I almost cried.<br /><br />After that, it was less good. I almost died trying to get on the bus home, as people just wouldn't stop pushing. I was sure someone was going to get trampled. Then, to top it all off, I left my phone at work, so I had to go back and get that.<br /><br />However, so far today I've managed to Skype my family and I got to see my Nanny as well, so it's all good. I'm now off to do my washing, because I really need some clothes.... :)Terri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-91433705306129112072010-12-27T08:41:00.000-08:002010-12-27T09:02:14.050-08:00Christmas at DisneySafe to say I made it through my Disney Christmas. I had a minor work nightmare on the day itself, but nothing that couldn't be solved and all done now so that's enough about that!<br /><br />Vikki has moved in now, which is great! It was just in time for Christmas, which was really lovely, as we got to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day morning together without considering the logistics of the thing. It has, however, hit my sleep patterns badly. Now Vikki doesn't have to be of property by 1am, we don't have an abrupt ending to our gatherings. Thus, we are now chatting and eating way into the night and I just don't get as much sleep. It's all good though.<br /><br />Christmas day was weird - very different, but an experience that just clarified for me that I do love Christmas and I think I will appreciate being at home for Christmas more now. However, having said that, I did have a lovely Christmas here. The morning was spent eating croissants and unwrapping lovely presents from Vikki and Riyad and Dan. :) Mum, Dad and Ryan have given me some money for Christmas which I am very much looking forward to finding something to spend it on. Work was fun on Christmas day, as almost everyone was in and there were almost all of us tasking and seating, so we spent a lot of the playing hopskotch and giving out stickers in the sun. Good times! After I finished work, we all headed to Stuart's for Christmas dinner, cooked by Stuart and Dan. It was truly very very yummy and I really enjoyed the nice atmosphere with friends as well. It was Boxing Day by the time we were done, and me and Vikki had to head back to Patterson at 1 to be off Commons property in time. We headed straight to bed for another day at work on Boxing Day.<br /><br />I wasn't feeling too great yesterday, so I was very thankful it was cold and work was fairly dead. Although I missed out on the overtime pay, I was grateful for my ER yesterday as I was feeling very unwell and going home early has definitely helped my health. :)<br /><br />As for today, I've been posting a bit in the facebook CRP group. I am a bit concerned that people are given this impression that there's a huge split in the Merchandise/F&B camps. I just feel it's really unfair that people are given this impression before they get here. There are some people who only socialise within their groups, but for the most part we are all a group of friends. Fingers crossed that point has come across.<br /><br />Still, I'd best go get ready for work as I start in a couple of hrs or so.<br />xxxTerri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-1537839670981767372010-12-19T23:17:00.000-08:002010-12-19T23:36:15.823-08:00Catching upOk, so it's been nearly a month since I last posted and quite a bit has happened. I will try to keep this relatively brief, but cover most of the details.<br /><br />The weather here has been a little bit shocking - we've definitely hit 0 here once or twice so far this month, which is pratically unheard of for Florida. Hardly what I've moved here for, to be honest. I hardly feel that I can complain though, as the UK is experiencing some pretty intense weather systems itself, with snow that has covered the entire country and looks set to cause the first white Christmas in such a long time. I'm told there's a severe absense of the song with the name aforementioned.<br /><br />Thank goodness I have started in the pavillion though. I've been working there for about 3 weeks or so now - it feels longer - and it's easy work. The people I've met on the whole have been wonderful and I'm happy to say things are looking much much brighter than they did during my first couple of weeks. I work in Food & Beverage which means I work in the Rose and Crown pub and the Yorkshire County fish hut. The work is easy and fun, for the most part. I have discovered that seating is my least favourite task and greeting or chippie filler are easily tieing for first position. However, I have to say a good deal of condiment refilling occurs when chippie filling and I swear guests are throwing away more tartar sauce than they are actually eating, but c'est la vie.<br /><br />My costume (uniform) is fairly basic, and modelled on tudor wear or another similar period (I personally think they've mixed and matched quite a bit throughout history), but I quite like it. I have a swishy skirt and I LOVE swishy skirts! Winner.<br /><br />Vikki's moving in with me as of tomorrow and Tuesday, which means that I will have a lovely roommate again. It'll be fun to have her here for good girly gossips and dinner parties. Lots of lovely people live here in Patterson and slowly the whole UK is moving this way, so it's great for socialising. With Christmas coming up it'll be good to have her here, so that security won't be kicking us out when we're having festive-type celebrations.<br /><br />Speaking of festive celebrations, I took a trip to Walmart today in search of many items, of which one was crackers. I haven't seen any crackers in America. Are these something that only exists in the UK? How depressing. However, our little Christmas tree is beyond gorgeous - very unique and stylish in it's own little haphazardly decorated way. I love it! Dan's parcel of my Christmas pressies also arrived this morning, so I'm feeling super good today. I've been waiting almost three weeks for them to arrive. I'm hoping beyond hope that Dan's get to him on time, as the post has been so slow with the snow in the UK that I'm not overly inspired that they will get there on time. They have left Miami, and providing the plane that they were on wasn't diverted too much off course the other day, they are in the UK and hopefully winging their way to Dan this very minute.<br /><br />I'm working Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve/Day this year, so there will be a fair amount of money in the kitty these next couple of weeks. Great news as I'm needing to save up for the end of January when Dan's here.<br /><br />As for now, it's half 2 in the morning and I've just remembered the cleaning team can be in any time after 9am, so I'd best get myself some sleep.<br /><br />Night all xxxTerri class="MsoNormal">Well, today I finished my classroom based training for this role, which is great. I now have a couple of days off, in which I hope to catch up on some sleep before I start work again. What they don’t tell you is that you will be spending a lot of your first week getting up at, literally, the crack of dawn to get to your classes. I’ve seen a lot of 5 and 6 am this past week, and it hasn’t been the nicest start to the programme to be honest, but getting up early is also hardly the end of the world.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Settling in is proving slightly more challenging for me than for most people on account of the fact that I am the only UK Cultural Rep in my arrival group. To be honest, I might as well have been the only person in my arrival group in total, because after the first two days of paperwork, I’ve not seen a living soul in my training that has been consistent! It’s making it pretty difficult to make friends when your relationship-building time is mere hours. Still, as of Friday morning, I will be on my on the job training, which means I’ll be meeting and working with a lot more people and more consistent faces. Fingers crossed, I’ll be making friends in no time! I’ve hardly had the most conventional programme as it is so far, so I’m hoping it’ll normal out very soon now!</p> <p class="MsoNormal">I’ve visited the Magi c Kingdom now, which was truly awesome – I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it! I really want to see Hollywood Studios again, so I intend to head there on one of my days off over the next couple of days. Probably Thursday as I have some bits and pieces to be doing on one of the days, like laundry and food shopping, so Thursday seems like a better day to be hitting the parks. I’ll have to go early though, as it will be Thanksgiving here so things will be PACKED!</p> <p class="MsoNormal">I’ve also decided that I need to buy a wireless router – not be able to access the internet here whenever I want is driving me mental! They’re pretty cheap in Walmart so I’m hoping with Black Friday that I might well be in luck for a cheap one! Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving in the US when all the shops sell things at tremendous bargain prices – some places go as low as 90% off. It’s like the January sales but much much bigger. Apparently, there were people camping and queuing already yesterday.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">I’ve unpacked everything into the apartment now, and it’s just about enough. I need to build up my shoe collection – this has become very clear, but I’m sure that really won’t take me very long. We have the Orlando Premium Outlets within walking distance, and free buses to the Florida Mall, for M&Ms amongst other goodies, so I’m certain that I will be spoilt for choice once the money starts rolling in!</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Still, tonight is Glee night, and I think I’m going to head to bed early to make the most of tomorrow – who knows, I might pop by a park in the afternoon! Still, looking forward to a lie-in!</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Chat soon,</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Terri<span style=""> </span>xxx</p>Terri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-48472412787929747552010-11-18T13:16:00.000-08:002010-11-18T13:38:01.902-08:00The Magic Begins...Well, I've made it to the land of dreams.<br /><br />It's really warm and sunny here, and I have a lovely apartment. It's in the newest block out here, called Patterson Court and there's all sorts of people living here from all different cultures and walks of life. I arrived and am doing Orientation with approximately 150 Peruvians, who are all on much shorter visas and a different programme. On the whole they seem to be really nice, but they've all come from the same University so they all know eachother and talk in Spanish all the time, which makes it a little diffcult to make friends. From what I can gather, I've certainly not had a usual Disney orientation, but it's still fun and I've made a couple of good friends, which is really lovely! There's a lovely Italian who I've started to hang out with too, on my programme, so I'm looking forward to Traditions knowing it's not just me now! :)<br /><br />So far it's just been a lot of paperwork, but the real fun starts on Saturday and that's when we get our Disney IDs, so that'll be a lovely trip to the parks from then on.<br /><br />I'll update soon! Keep dry over there in England and I miss you all very much!<br /><br />Love & cuddles xxxxTerri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-49583967447264802822010-10-25T12:39:00.000-07:002010-10-25T12:45:28.521-07:00When You Wish Upon A Star...So, the excitement has begun. It's crazy to think that I applied for this job in June, interviewed in August and earlier this month, and now, in 3 weeks' time, will be flying out to Florida for the most amazing experience I'll ever have.<br /><br />Walt Disney World is only 22 days away, and today I booked my flight and sent off my CRB check. I cannot believe I only found out about this 4 days ago! My whole world has been rocked, but I am so excited! I don't want to leave Dan behind, but I know we'll stick with it and manage to get through it, and hopefully he'll be able to come over to Disney to visit me some time next year.<br /><br />I keep looking around our little flat and thinking that I have to pack it all back up, sell a load of things I should really get rid of, and it feels like I've only just unpacked it. I'm only planning on taking the one suitcase out to Never Neverland with me, though, so I have to get rid of some of it! :)<br /><br />Best get cracking then...Terri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-54247844207922706432009-02-07T20:05:00.000-08:002009-02-07T20:32:36.313-08:00Don't Quote Me On This...I wanted to introduce you to a few quotes that mean something to me. Be it that they mean something right now, in this moment, or they have always held a special place in my heart.<br /><br /><br /><div align="center"><em>'You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.'</em></div><div align="center"><em></em></div><div align="left">From John Lennon's Imagine, the above says exactly what it days. We are all dreamers; we all have missions and visions and places to escape to in our heads, where nothing is bad. Is this a good thing? Does it matter? I believe in dreaming, because dreaming helps us to ground ourselves. Often a dream is a step more than an ambition, because a dream has an element which seems unacheivable, but it is important to remember that this is the key. It may only <em>seem</em> unacheivable.</div><div align="left"> </div><div align="left"> </div><div align="left"></div><div align="left"></div><div align="center"><em>'No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.'</em></div><div align="center"><em></em></div><div align="left">What an exceptionally wise woman Eleanor Roosevelt was. I wish I had had the opportunity to meet her. My motto in life is the above quotation. It's very true. People can only put you down if you let them, and you should always strive to be proud of yourself. No one should make anyone feel inferior. Unfortunately it happens in life multiple times everyday, but don't let anyone do it to you. Remember: It's your life and you can live it how you want. Don't let anyone make you feel inferior.</div><div align="left"> </div><div align="left"> </div><div align="left"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"><em>'Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.'</em></div><div align="center"><em></em></div><div align="left">If I knew the 'author' of this quote, I would credit it to them. As it is, however, I don't and therefore it shall just sit here until someone claims it. A very important message is written in those words, and it simply means don't let fear of something going wrong stop you from try. You will never know until you take that leap and try it. If you do strike out, so to speak, then don't worry about it; it's good to have an area to work on building a strength. You can't be good at everything, and just remember that ultimately, 'no one can make you feel inferior without your consent'.</div><div align="left"> </div><div align="left"> </div><div align="left"></div><div align="left"></div><div align="center"><em>'Reach for the stars. You may not get a star, but at least you won't end up with a handful of dirt.'</em></div><div align="center"><em></em></div><div align="left">How true is that? Strive for the best and you'll shoot past the worst very quickly. It's important to aim high in life and get what you want out of it. We only live once - make it count!</div><div align="left"></div>Terri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7070637047075868130.post-4527395333143299382009-01-24T16:39:00.000-08:002009-02-02T07:59:21.963-08:00Change isn't just to be spent. There have been some really amazing people in the world in the past.; people who have made change and caused change, or just stood up for what they believed in. People who have inspired or taught, and lead and been lead to help create today's world. People like Emmeline Pankhurst, Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy.<br /><br /><br />I wonder if Emmeline knew quite the effect that she would have on people when she started the WSPU and quite how much the change would be integral to the start of many other politial equality campaigns. Still the effects are truly evident and are now such a massive part of daily life that people rarely think of the part she had to play in the introduction of this standard - people often forget what got them to where they are.<br /><br /><br />Perhaps this is not such a bad thing on a day-to-day level. Being reminded every day of what Martin Luther King Jr. helped fight for should not be the case, and it is good that the standards these days are complete opposites to what once existed. School history lessons are surely enought ot remind people of what once was and now isn't - and rightly so?<br /><br />I've been thinking about change a lot recently, and how people's actions can impact generations, and lifetimes. Can we pinpoint which individual started the Civil Rights movement? Which single person first said that something was wrong? If we can, does it really matter? Surely the main thing is that someone did...<br /><br />Does it matter if I am the first person to put up my hand in a gathering and say something is wrong? Does it matter if it is me who says it and not someone else? Does it matter if where I say it is wrong? Does it matter for what reason I say it?<br /><br />Perhaps the forum to say it is not the issue, nor if I am the first, or the last to say it. Perhaps the matter just needs to be addressed and someone needs to say something. So what if the forum that I say it in isn't necessarily the right one - as long as it's not entirely the wrong one. As long as it's said, then the issue has been raised.<br /><br />I became a student officer to say things in the right place, at the right time. Places and times that perhaps othe students don't always have access to. I became President of a team because I believe I can do the job. I believe I can lead, listen and liaise. I wanted to push for change where change was needed, and fight to keep consistency when that is needed.<br /><br />That is what I intend to do, and that is what I am now doing. I believe change is important. It is crucial to maintain progress. Progress in it's very nature is positive; change should only be made to continuously improve and move forward. However, progress is not progress if the direction headed in is not the direction that is correct.<br /><br />Change for change's sake is wrong. Progress should be made with caution. Sometimes, just sometimes, keeping things as they are is the best way forward.Terri xhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10217280822872509944noreply@blogger.com1
